The most common BHA is salicylic acid, known for its acne fighting power since this acid can penetrate through oil, targeting the sebaceous follicles to dissolve bacteria, hardened oils and dead skin in comedones. BHAs are less irritating than AHAs, doesn’t make the skin more photosensitive and contains a mild anti-inflammatory. However, these acids are still powerful and can kill off healthy skin flora (which could lead to more breakouts) so spot treatments with concentrations of 1-2% with a pH of 3.0-4.0 is most suitable for the health of your skin. Pair With: A heavy hydrator, SPF and AHAs for acne prone skin.
