Great Expectations We buy the newest products to see skin improvements, but just how long do they really take to see result?
by | June 17, 2021

We all love instant gratification, but as a wise woman once said – good things take time. Skincare is having its moment in the sun, with leaps in advances for healthier, glowing, youthful skin. But it’s not just how potent the product is, it’s also how your skin reacts to it.

So just how long should skincare active ingredients take to work/see results?

  • AHAs (exfoliant, reduce discoloration, reduce fine lines):  immediately, peak results at 12 weeks.
  • BHAs (exfoliant, acne fighter): immediately, peaks result at 12 weeks.
  • Hyaluronic acid (major moisturizer, skin healer and plumper, environmental shield): a few minutes
  • Niacinamide B3 (exfoliant, reduce discoloration and fine lines): 12 weeks
  • Retinols OTC (increasing collagen production, reduces fine lines):  3-6 months
  • Retinoids RX (increasing collagen production, reduces deep set lines): 6-8 weeks
  • Vitamin C: 3+ weeks
  • Botanical Lighteners (kojic, licorice, arbutin): 6-12 weeks.

Overuse on certain products like retinols and AHAs won’t speed up results but it can cause irritation, redness, excess breakouts, and chapped skin. For sensitive skin we recommend starting slow, possibly skipping application days to avoid redness, peeling and possible chemical burns. For severe reactions, absolutely discontinue use. Long term damage can occur and we’re all about the best skin health.
